For devoted Gibson Les Paul aficionados, ’50s Standards are, well, the “gold standard.” A 1958 or 1959 sunburst is an instrument of sublime beauty, and models in exceptional shape command astronomical prices. The Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s Limited Edition evokes the look, feel and sound of these near-unobtainable treasures, and puts the magic into your hands. This celebration of an iconic Les Paul era features a solid mahogany body, plain maple top, rounded-C mahogany neck, 12″ radius rosewood fretboard, 22 medium-jumbo frets and Burstbucker 1 (neck) and Burstbucker 2 (bridge) humbuckers.

“Players such as Jimmy Page and Warren Haynes inspired me to pick up a Les Paul,” says Los Angeles guitarist, educator and leader of her own band, Angela Petrilli. “I have a ’59 reissue back home that I absolutely love. Les Pauls are incredibly resonant instruments. You can strum them and get a beautiful rhythm with a big, all-encompassing tone, but you can also get a screaming lead sound if you hit an overdrive pedal. When I play in the rhythm position of a Les Paul, I’m looking for something that is well rounded with a lot of character, but still has enough bite to cut through a mix. In the bridge position, I look for something that really cuts. This guitar gives me the tones I would expect from a ’50s Les Paul Standard.”

Here it is, my take on how to play “The Weight” with slide and in an open tuning on the guitar.
For some of you this is going to be _two_ new things to learn so please take it slowly and come back to this several times, it’s worth it.
I did assume that you’ve heard “The Weight” before, in making of this instructional video. Maybe you’ve played it in the original key of A, and then it might be confusing that I’m coming with everything played in the key of G. This is how I do it most of the times, _and_ if I’d back up anybody playing in the original key, I’d put a capo on the 2nd fret when in Open G, that’s a solution. Just make sure, in case you’re doing the same, to play it on a guitar that’s got 14 frets to the body, otherwise it’s a stretch to reach those higher notes…

Feel free to comment and roast me if you wish, but then make sure you have suggestions for improvements, thanx!

Tuning a Guitar – Standard tuning for 6 string guitar

Tuning a Guitar – Standard tuning for 6 string guitar

Sick of those guitar tuning videos with distorted sound and/or only play the note 2 or 3 times which doesn’t give you enough time to properly tune each note?

Those types of guitar tuning videos are really frustrating and you end up having to stop, start and repeat the video in order to hear each note enough times.

Our guitar tuning guide plays each string 8 times over a period of 16 seconds, which should give you plenty of time to correctly tune your guitar.

The tuning follows the standard tuning for 6 string guitar and can be used for either acoustic or electric guitar.

Goes from

Bottom E
A
D
G
B
Top E

Gibson SG Standard '61 Vintage Cherry Electric Guitar Review, Made In USA – Brian K Guitar

Gibson SG Standard '61 Vintage Cherry Electric Guitar Review, Made In USA – Brian K Guitar

Full review of the Gibson Standard ’61 electric guitar (made in USA). These guitars are great for both rock, blues and even jazz and fusion music. We scope it out up close for fit and finish and then we take it through the paces with a Fender ’65 Twin Reverb and a Marshall Plexi. Two classic flavors of vintage cleans and old school dirt. I use my Fender Mustang 3 Amp for the demo.

To be clear, Jeff Beck was wearing his slide on his middle (2nd) finger and angling it as far back as the mid 70’s. I just didn’t find out about it until 2004 when I saw a video clip on Youtube. That’s why Jeff Beck is the Guv’nor.
